Casting molds are a professional term in the mold manufacturing industry. When it comes to casting molds, mold manufacturing must be mentioned first. Mold manufacturing is a process of copying the appearance of a known object using certain materials to facilitate the replication of the original product.

Methods of operating silicone rubber casting molds:

As with all mold making processes, the product that needs to be molded must first be processed. This processing mainly includes cleaning, grinding, polishing, and drying, etc., the purpose is to make the surface of the object to be molded clean, smooth, and perfect, thereby ensuring the quality of the silicone mold produced later.

After confirming that the product to be molded is perfectly smooth, it needs to be fixed first. Usually, it can be fixed on a specific wooden board or glue board. In special cases, there will be certain requirements for the board material. The fixing is mainly achieved through industrial adhesives. After fixing, a mold groove needs to be made according to the size of the object to be molded. For simple small workshops, the product to be molded can simply be surrounded by a board.

Next is the preparation of professional silicone rubber for molds.

There are several aspects to note in the preparation of silicone: First, mix the silicone and catalyst according to the ratio specified in the silicone instructions. The weighing of silicone and catalyst must be accurate, and the mixing of silicone and catalyst must be uniform. Second, after confirming that the silicone and catalyst are mixed evenly, the silicone mixture generally needs to be vacuum treated once to prevent residual bubbles in the silicone mixture. Of course, if conditions do not permit, vacuum operation can be omitted, and this requires the staff to have strong experience.

After preparing the silicone material, simply pour the silicone into the mold groove and wait for natural curing. The natural curing time of silicone can be found in the product instructions. The general curing time is between 2-5 hours. Many products that use silicone to make molds also need to make an outer mold to ensure that the mold does not deform. The outer mold material is generally gypsum or fiberglass.

Application areas of silicone rubber casting molds:

Because the molds produced by casting molds basically have only one whole piece, there is a problem of difficulty in demolding, and it is difficult to ensure that the products and molds can perfectly fit when making silicone rubber molds. Therefore, casting molds are generally only suitable for relatively simple products. Here, simple includes that the appearance cannot have too many patterns, the corners of the appearance cannot be too many, the appearance is best smooth and easy to demold, and the size of the appearance cannot be too large.

Because of some limitations of casting molds, most products are not suitable for casting mold operation. Moreover, products that can basically be operated with casting molds can also be achieved using brushing molds. Of course, casting molds also have their advantages, that is, simple operation and easy cost control.
