8 ways to use silicone molds to make them more durable

When using silicone molds, to save costs and improve efficiency, we naturally hope that the silicone molds can be used for many times and have a long service life. So how can we extend the service life of silicone molds and ensure that they are more durable? Let's take a look at the following 9 methods!
First, when making silicone molds using the pouring method, choose the appropriate hardness of silicone according to the fineness of the pattern.
Generally:
When the silicone hardness is between 10 and 30 Shore A, the higher the hardness, the better the quality;
When the silicone hardness exceeds 30 Shore A, the higher the hardness, the worse the quality.
1. For products with simple patterns, since they are relatively easy to demold, it is recommended to choose a higher hardness;
2. For products with fine patterns, because of the fear of damaging the product, in practice, a lower hardness is generally chosen because the softer it is, the better it is to demold, but at the same time, the quality will also be somewhat deviated.
However, we can still choose silicone with a relatively higher hardness, as long as we open a mold line on the silicone mold. This makes demolding easier and prevents the mold from being scrapped quickly due to repeated demolding and pulling, ultimately extending the service life of the silicone.
Second, choose between pouring and brushing according to the size of the model product.
If the product is very large, you must use brushing. Although pouring is labor-saving, time-saving, and effort-saving, it is very expensive~
Because for such large products, pouring wastes silicone and increases costs. Secondly, the weight of the product can easily damage the silicone mold, causing deformation or breakage. However, if you choose brushing, you can add several layers of gauze inside to increase the toughness and strength of the mold. With the support of the outer mold, it is naturally not easy to be damaged or deformed by pressure.
Third, choose the appropriate hardness of silicone according to the size of the product.
1. For small products, generally softer silicone is more suitable. Because when the silicone is too hard, the mold will be very brittle, easily breaking small parts of the product, which will also make the mold less durable.
2. For large products, such as stone and cement products, which are inherently hard and heavy, if soft mold silicone material is used, wouldn't the mold be more easily damaged? Because the silicone is too soft, its tensile and tear strength will be reduced, the mold will deform, and the service life will naturally be reduced.
Fourth, the silicone and curing agent must be mixed evenly.
Otherwise, the surface will dry but the inside will not, or the curing will be uneven, which will cause the mold to be scrapped and should be avoided.
Fifth, vacuuming to remove air bubbles can also extend the service life of the mold.
Imagine, a mold full of holes and bubbles everywhere, would you dare say that this mold has good tear strength?
Sixth, resin products should be demolded as soon as possible to prevent the mold from being burned.
Because unsaturated resin and resin products, after adding a peroxide curing agent, will generate a lot of heat when they react with the resin. The general resin curing time is 3 minutes, so demolding should be done as soon as possible after 3 minutes to prevent the silicone mold from burning.
Seventh, quality control must be in place when purchasing silicone.
Some silicone manufacturers, in order to reduce costs, add composite silicone oil (a mixture of silicone oil and white mineral oil) during the production of silicone, which will cause the resulting silicone mold to leak oil seriously, thus seriously affecting the quality and service life of the silicone mold.
Eighth, it is recommended not to add any silicone oil to the silicone during the mold making process.
Due to changes in products, many people sometimes actively add silicone oil to the silicone to reduce the hardness or dilute the viscosity of the silicone. Here, it is recommended not to add any silicone oil to the silicone. Because the more silicone oil is added, the softer the resulting mold will be, and the tensile and tear strength will be reduced, and the silicone will naturally not be durable, and the service life will be reduced. If necessary, the amount of silicone oil added should not exceed 5%-10%.
If a new project comes along and the previous batch of goods is not used up, it is recommended to wait until there is a similar project later and then use it. This time, you can directly order silicone with the appropriate hardness and viscosity, because the shelf life of Jerry brand silicone is one year.
